Photo:  Source

Mathieu Stern found a time capsule in his old family home from the 1900s of some items including some glass plate negatives of the girl's beloved pets, specifically a cat,  which he developed using a cyanotype process.

The amazing video of his find and developing the photos are below.

VINTAGE TOY: 1970s Klackers

Doesn't it sound like a plague of locusts in the video below?   These were actually a popular children's toy for several years in the 1970s.

My Mom called them worse than that after she made the mistake of buying my brother a set for Christmas back when they came out in the and we would have them going at the same time.  My Mom didn't swear often, but the Klacker headaches she would get from the continual Klack, Klack, Klack would bring forth words that normally would not come out of her mouth.

Then there was the inevitable Klacker mishap where it might fly out and hit your sibling or yourself in the eye/arm/face and those suckers were like giant marbles and hurt like heck if you go thwapped with one.

UNUSUAL SONG: Lime Jell-O Marshmallow Cottage Cheese Surprise

Although this is a novelty song by William Bolcom and originally performed by Joan Morris in the early 80's, it is an ode an equally novelty dish your Mom or Grandma may have made in the 1960s or 1970s, Lime Jell-O Marshmallow Cottage Cheese Surprise and mentions other "creative" dishes that were in magazines at that time that ladies would make and take to potlucks.

This rendition is by Velveteen Lounge Kitsch-en, a Youtube channel by a husband and wife that have their house decorated in the groovy 60's and 70's kitsch and feature themed drinks and retro dishes.  In this video, they even created other novelty dishes that are mentioned in the song.

There is a real recipe for this here, although the version I had as a kid also had mayonnaise in with the whipped cream (or maybe it was cream cheese and mayo?) and it was topped with maraschino cherries instead of tomatoes and it was not as bad as it sounds.

THRIFT STORE FIND: Ain't No Hood LIke Motherhood Tote Bag

Spotted this at a local Goodwill yesterday during a half-price Saturday.

Putting my inner grammar police person aside as it was drilled into me by my Mom and teachers in school that "Ain't" is not a real word,  not sure what to think about it,

I guess being a Mother is like being a leader of a gang sometimes and I guess this would show you are a protective mama bear of your cubs.

On the other hand, I don't think I would want to do a bake sale with this Mom if I had to be the one to tell her that her cookies look a bit overdone to put out as she might cut me.

Valentine's Day - Not Just For Romantic Love

Source

While the media conception pushes Valentine's Day to be that one of romantic love, but just remember even if you are not in a romantic relationship at this time, there are other kinds of love and that God and Jesus will always love you.

May you have a wonderful and blessed Valentine's Day.

Girl Scout Cookies Ranked From Worst To Best Mashed

Tis the season to encounter Girl Scouts hawking their cookies inside a store near you.  If you don't already have a favorite or thinking about trying a different one, Youtube Food channel Mashed put together a video ranking them from least favorite to favorite.

Of course, cookie loving is subjective.  In the past, I would have put the Peanut Butter Patties at the top of the list, but the cookie seemed to have bit different texture and flavor than prior years and I would move it down the list and move up Thin Mints to #1.

An Actual Cat on A Catwak

Photo: esmoddubai  via Via Top13

A furry four-footed sensation graced the runway at Emaar Square Shopping Center in Istanbul, Turkey, but it was not a planned event; it was a cat catwalk crasher.

Via Top13 the fashion designed, Goksen Hakki Ali, thought the following of this feline trespasser:
"It is not clear where the cat came from, but his motives were very clear:  he wanted the full attention and admiration of the audience."
and.
“And judging by his attempts to attack passing models, it wasn’t something he wanted to share.”
I would expect no less from a cat.

Below is a short video from Instagram where the cat burgled the show.

Map: Source via Digg via Netcredit

Netcredit put together an Onomastics (which is the linguist study of names) map of the most popular last name in each country in the world.

From the article on Netcredit:

"According to legend, surnames were first used in China in 2852 BC to aid the collection of census information.[3]
In Western Europe, the use of surnames became more common in the Middle Ages. The continent’s population grew larger, creating a greater need for last names to tell people apart.[4]
In general, the etymologies of surnames fall into five different categories: occupational, personal description, toponymic (from a place name), patronymic (from the name of a father or ancestor) and names signifying patronage.[5]"

The article further indicated that Smith the most common name in the US, Canada, UK and Australia.  Wang is the most common in China and most common in the world.

For a closeup by continent of each country, visit the article on Netcredit.
