UNUSUAL VINTAGE ADS: 1944 SPAM BIRDS

Photo:  Source

My mother grew up during the Depression and WWII and although I don't know if the ever celebrated a Thanksgiving with SPAM bird like this, it was a popular product as it didn't require refrigeration and it was a way to add some sort of way to add a bit of a meat product to the table without having to go out and kill a chicken.

The "points" it is referencing is that food was rationed and families were given a specific number of points to purchase items.  In the ad above it also said not to blame your grocer if he is out of SPAM as it was shipped to the Armed Forces.

As you can probably find a can nowadays on your grocer's shelf, you too could make SPAM Birds.

From the brief description in the ad, to make SPAM Birds it indicates you cut SPAM into slices, put the stuffing of your choice in the center then fold together and secure with toothpicks to hold it together then pop it in the oven to crisp up the SPAM.

I did find a video on Youtube where a version is made but she makes the stuffing then fries the SPAM in a pan the combines together.

QUARANTINE ACTIVITY: CREATE AN INVISIBLE WALL WITH CLING WRAP AND WATCH CATS

Not sure what the internet would be like if it weren't for cat videos.

While I personally would not waste the cling wrap, it was interesting to see how these six cats handle the "invisible wall".

The channel that made this video Kittisaurus has other cat videos if you enjoy watching cat videos.

LITTLE FREE LIBRARY: TREE LIBRARY

Photo:  Source

Little Free Library is now a worldwide initiative that began 10 years ago in Hudson, Wisconsin to increase literacy by installing a container where people had access to free reading materials in neighborhoods or where you could leave reading items to share with others.

From a post on demilked indicated this one was made out of a stump of an old 110-year-old tree and created by Sharalee Armitage Howard in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.  As she is a librarian in the community as well as as being an artist and a former bookbinder it seems like a marriage of all of those talents for a magical community asset for sharing of reading materials.

As amazing as the treehouse is, a few of the comments the post highlighted are just as unique:

Do you have a Little Free Library in your area or have you ever used one?   Please feel free to post in the Comments section below.

Here is a close up of the "Book" detail at the top of the case from the artist/librarian's website.

Pizza Robots Used By Costco to Make Their Pizza

Mashable on Youtube posted why Costco's Pizza is so delicious and while there is plenty of human interaction on how it is made, there are also two  "robots" used in making the pizza that make it a uniform, consistent product.

Beginning at  3:38 it shows the first machine that presses the ball of dough into a uniform round shape.

The second is the sauce dispenser that spins like an an LP on a turntable dispensing the sauce evenly until it get to the end.

Picture: Mashable

While these robots make the product consistent, what makes it good is the loads of toppings and cheese and at starting at 770 calories, which is around half of the recommended daily allowance for calories, it is more than a meal in itself,

Artist Makes Vase Out of Colored Pencils

Youtuber Nick at NZ Woodturning created a vase out a common school supply - colored pencils, and the results are very cool.

He used 4 stacked layers of pencils around a block of wood, poured resin in the gaps, then whittled it down using a tool and a lathe, then coat with a finish to make a unique showpiece.
