As we celebrate Memorial Day with family and friends in a free country, always remember those that have fought and died for our rights.

UNIQUE FIND: HANOI JANE URINAL TARGET

We went out to eat at a new restaurant called 330 Barbecue in New Haven, IN and when Marv came back from the bathroom he asked to borrow my phone so he could take a picture of something.

He came back and showed me the men's room has "Hanoi Jane" [

urinal targets.

If you do not know who "Hanoi Jane" is here is a link to a post on Military.com.

Although it has been nearly 50 years now since Jane's much publicized visit to Vietnam, there is even now a petition online collecting signatures hanoijanetreasoninvestigation.com requesting a treason investigation.

UNIQUE CREATION: MERMAID GNOME FROM DOLLAR TREE ITEMS

Screenshot from videoThis is one of the most original projects I have seen made with Dollar Tree items; it is a mermaid gnome made with a pillow covering, Troll Doll hair, a vase, ribbon and even a little coordinating tail.

Below is a video of the DIY that should start at the beginning of the craft.

UNUSUAL FASHION: DOUBLE SIDED BOOTS

Source

To stay relevant in the fashion world you have to come up with something new and interesting to show people; while the above  Double-Faced Cowboy Boots by designer Shayne Oliver. checks those boxes, I would think they would be hard to walk in.  It does make you do a double take though!

UNIQUE CREATIONS FROM HULA HOOPS

The video compilation below from Hometalk has a compilation of 14 unexpected projects to make using Hula hoops.

By picking up some Hula hoops from the Dollar Tree as they are currently carrying you could make a display like the above for a birthday or wedding or a Dyson sphere industrial-looking decoration for your home.

Although my favorite is the modern-looking plant holder

THRIFT STORE FIND: VINTAGE SIGN - IF NOT FOR CHOCOLATE THERE WOULD NO NEED FOR CONTROL TOP PANTYHOSE

If you are under 30 you might be scratching your head over this one.

I found this in a thrift store and I am guessing this is from the 1970s when Control Top Pantyhose became popular as it eliminated the need for some women that used to wear a girdle with their pantyhose just to wear hose, so it was a big deal for those women.

Teen girls even wore them under slinky dresses as it gave a cleaner line to the garment.

These days pantyhose is not the wardrobe staple they used to be for women, let alone control top, but they are still great for formal dress, special occasions, or certain garments.

FUTURISTIC: GROWING CLOTHES FROM YEAST

Screenshot from video below

While this sounds similar to the plot in Michael Crichton's 2002 futuristic fiction book "Prey", it actually is a reality now.

From an article on Vice.com:

"The field has been brewing for decades. Now, bioengineered fashion is beginning to deliver on its promise of new, more sustainable materials grown in labs and made with microbes. The technology uses a kind of fermentation, in which gene-edited organisms—like yeast or bacteria—are reprogrammed to produce the raw materials for fibers and textiles.

In recent years a range of these bioengineered materials, from lab-made leathers to futuristic, super-strong silks, have begun trickling onto fashion-show runways and into consumer markets. Big-name brands like The North Face, Patagonia, and Stella McCartney are buying into the dream, partnering with biotech firms around the world. This year, Adidas released a mushroom-leather version of its classic Stan Smith sneaker. Hermes is partnering with California’s MycoWorks on a fungus-based luxury handbag. And designer Yuima Nakazato has been using bioengineered, spider-inspired silks to make wild, baroque couture creations.

It’s an exciting time for designer Suzanne Lee, who’s worked at the intersection of materials science, biology, and fashion since the early 2000s. Until recently, Lee was chief creative officer at Modern Meadow, a biotech company most known for using yeast to produce collagen—which they then craft into a leather-like material. Now, her consultancy, called Biofabricate, connects investors, labs, and fashion brands, holding conferences and other events that bring together a generation of sustainable materials startups."

This is a little late to the party but too cute not to share.

NEW FOOD ITEM: Kellogg's Mashups - Frosted Flakes and Fruit Loops

It was like a childhood dream come true.

I found this Limited Edition of Kellogg's Mashups which is a combination of Frosted Flakes and Fruit Loops for $2.98 a box.

I was going to pick up a box until I spotted the sugar content and put it back on the shelf, but it still sounds delicious!
