Happy 98th Birthday Betty White!
Her career began in 1939 a few months out of high school singing with a classmate on television on an experimental television channel in Los Angeles and went to modeling and doing radio voice-overs and bit parts (radio plays were very popular then and not many people had a television), getting her own radio show in 1949.
She was the first woman to produce a sitcom, called "Life With Elizabeth" which starred White as part of a suburban couple for 1953-1955 and was the honorary mayor of Hollywood in 1955.
She is probably best known for her roles as Sue Ann Nivens in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in the 70's and or ditzy Rose Nylund in "Golden Girls" from 1985-1992 (the latter is currently available with a subscription on Hulu.
She also rocked the 2010 Superbowl Commercial for Snickers candy bars (video link at the bottom).
