UNIQUE VEHICLE: BIG Chopper Motorcycle

This custom chopper is so big it won't even fit in the entire frame, but it looks like it is more of a roadside attraction than something rideable, but still cool.

CATS: BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY - CAT VERSION

Above is my cat Dave watching the cat version of Bohemian Rhapsody in the video link below.

It was entertaining to me, but Dave seemed to freak out a little and jumped on the couch, perhaps plotting on working on his "singing" skills at 2am for revenge.

WEATHER: Hurricane Ida's Remnants Blast NYC, Flooding Subways & Streets

Screenshot from video below

The video below is only one of the many that have been uploaded showing the flooding that is happening in New York and New Jersey; it is just one of the few that has a G rating.

I don't think I would have pleasant words either if my toilet was backflowing and flooding my entire home.

UNUSUAL DECORATION: VINTAGE COMMODES OUTSIDE A FILTRATION PLANT

 Photo: Source

This was posted on my hometown group where I was originally from.  It is outside the filtration plant.

Have to admit that seeing a group of vintage commodes, probably from the late 60s to late70's when having a commode to match to match your decor was a thing and turning the center one into a planter is not something you would see everyday and using them as decoration is saving them from a landfill.

UNIQUE PLACES: LAST CLAM SHELL SERVICE STATION IN WINSTON-SALEM, NC

 Photo:  Source

Atlas Obscura indicates the store is now abandoned and:

"The clamshell stations represented the transformation of a brand into a building, a symbol into a real thing. When Raymond Loewy designed the current Shell symbol in 1971, it had already gone though many incarnations. Although the original 1901 brand for the London-based Shell Transport and Trading Company was a mussel shell, by 1904 the scallop shell was introduced – possibly from the family coat of arms of the company’s founder Marcus Samuel, whose business would merge with Royal Dutch Petroleum Company to form Royal Dutch-Shell Oil. Samuel had a habit of naming his tankers after different kinds of shells, and he had a background importing objects from the Far East, including beautiful shells.

It wasn’t easy to make shell-shaped gas stations. The office and bathroom area were boxed in, surrounded by a bent wood and wire frame, and then covered in stucco. This last station remained open until the 1950s and housed a lawn mower repair business in the 1970s and 80s. In 1976, it became the first individual station in America to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places."

"Breaking: At least 80 dead, 1300 missing, after heavy rain caused severe flooding in western Germany. Massive Floods in Erftstadt-Blessem, Germany (July 15, 2021). Record rainfall in western Europe caused rivers to burst their banks, devastating the region. Belgium has also reported at least 12 dead after the extreme weather, which political leaders have blamed on climate change. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has pledged full support for the victims. Unique Place: Medina Haram Piazza Shading Umbrellas

Al-Masjed Al-Nabawi 5

Umbrellas that open and close like this would be a great idea in many hot cities.

"Medina Haram Piazza Shading Umbrellas or Al-Masjid An-Nabawi Umbrellas are convertible umbrellas erected at the piazza of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Medina, Saudi Arabia.[1] The shade of the umbrella is spread in the four corners, and the area covered by the shade extends to 143,000 square meters. These umbrellas are aimed to protect worshipers from the heat of the sun during prayer, as well as from the risk of slipping and falling in the event of rain. Similar structures are built at the square of the mosques worldwide. At Al-Masjid An-Nabawi, there are total of 250 umbrellas.[2]"

NEW FOOD ITEM: KELLOGG'S FROSTED FLAKES WITH CRISPY CINNAMON BASKETBALLS

I spotted this on a recent trip to Walmart.  It is a new spin on an old favorite by adding cinnamon-flavored basketball shapes to the mix.

It looks like it would be fun cereal and would probably taste good.  The cost is $3.64.

However, the second ingredient per Walmart's website is sugar, and the percentage 24% so would be one to consume in moderation like any high sugar content cereal.

VINTAGE VEHICLE: 1940 IH SCOUT WOODIE

 Source

It sure looks good for being over 70 years old.  Imagine the places it has gone and times it has seen.

Our family has owned several Scouts and they are sturdy and built to last, except if you live in where it is snowy quite a bit and they salt the roads it takes its toll on the body.

On Surf rods and Woodies a Facebook user posted two pictures of a 1940 IH Scout Woodie.

UNIQUE VEHICLE: POLARIS SLINGSHOT

When driving down the road I spotted the above vehicle to my right.  In looking it up is a 3 wheeled motorcycled called a Polaris Slingshot.

Wikipedia advised it was introduced in 2014 as a 2015 model and:
"The Slingshot is manufactured by Polaris Industries, in the United States (Alabama), which claims that "It's a three-wheeled motorcycle!" It has a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, side-by-side bucket seats,[2] and does not lean. It has no roof, doors, or side windows and the whole interior is waterproof so it can be hosed down and drained out using drain holes in the floor.[3"]

If this would be your jam, it will set you back a pretty penny as the Polaris website indicates the prices start at $31,299USD.

UNIQUE FIND: HANOI JANE URINAL TARGET

We went out to eat at a new restaurant called 330 Barbecue in New Haven, IN and when Marv came back from the bathroom he asked to borrow my phone so he could take a picture of something.

He came back and showed me the men's room has "Hanoi Jane" [

urinal targets.

If you do not know who "Hanoi Jane" is here is a link to a post on Military.com.

Although it has been nearly 50 years now since Jane's much publicized visit to Vietnam, there is even now a petition online collecting signatures hanoijanetreasoninvestigation.com requesting a treason investigation.

THRIFT STORE FIND: VINTAGE SIGN - IF NOT FOR CHOCOLATE THERE WOULD NO NEED FOR CONTROL TOP PANTYHOSE

If you are under 30 you might be scratching your head over this one.

I found this in a thrift store and I am guessing this is from the 1970s when Control Top Pantyhose became popular as it eliminated the need for some women that used to wear a girdle with their pantyhose just to wear hose, so it was a big deal for those women.

Teen girls even wore them under slinky dresses as it gave a cleaner line to the garment.

These days pantyhose is not the wardrobe staple they used to be for women, let alone control top, but they are still great for formal dress, special occasions, or certain garments.

FUTURISTIC: GROWING CLOTHES FROM YEAST

Screenshot from video below

While this sounds similar to the plot in Michael Crichton's 2002 futuristic fiction book "Prey", it actually is a reality now.

From an article on Vice.com:

"The field has been brewing for decades. Now, bioengineered fashion is beginning to deliver on its promise of new, more sustainable materials grown in labs and made with microbes. The technology uses a kind of fermentation, in which gene-edited organisms—like yeast or bacteria—are reprogrammed to produce the raw materials for fibers and textiles.

In recent years a range of these bioengineered materials, from lab-made leathers to futuristic, super-strong silks, have begun trickling onto fashion-show runways and into consumer markets. Big-name brands like The North Face, Patagonia, and Stella McCartney are buying into the dream, partnering with biotech firms around the world. This year, Adidas released a mushroom-leather version of its classic Stan Smith sneaker. Hermes is partnering with California’s MycoWorks on a fungus-based luxury handbag. And designer Yuima Nakazato has been using bioengineered, spider-inspired silks to make wild, baroque couture creations.

It’s an exciting time for designer Suzanne Lee, who’s worked at the intersection of materials science, biology, and fashion since the early 2000s. Until recently, Lee was chief creative officer at Modern Meadow, a biotech company most known for using yeast to produce collagen—which they then craft into a leather-like material. Now, her consultancy, called Biofabricate, connects investors, labs, and fashion brands, holding conferences and other events that bring together a generation of sustainable materials startups."
